A fire on the roof of Excela Westmoreland Hospital was quickly put out yesterday.
The Tribune-Review reports that some debris on the roof ignited as a repair crew was cutting a section of old roofing away around 1:00 PM. As a cautionary measure, hospital officials moved patients from the sixth floor Step Down Unit to the intensive care unit, and patients in recovery were moved to the first floor. Also any procedures that were to take place on the sixth floor were delayed.
Greensburg Fire officials say that the workers had things under control when they got there, and the fire was knocked down within 40 minutes. The hospital re-opened about an hour and a half after the fire was reported.
