The Norwin School District will hike property taxes by three percent next school year.
The Tribune-Review reports that that will equal a 2.4 mil increase in property taxes in North Huntingdon, North Irwin and Irwin areas. The tax hike will bring in an additional $970,000 in tax revenue, but there is still a $1.3 million budget shortfall. The district cannot raise taxes further without approval from the voters or the state education department.
The shortfall will be covered with $978,875 in general fund money and another $350,000 from budgetary reserves.
