Arnold City Council on Tuesday night voted to decertify the Citizens Volunteer Fire Company Number 1, meaning they will no longer respond to fire calls.
The Trib reports that the vote went 3-2 to decertify the 117-year-old department. There were calls to delay the decision until after a new mayor and council were seated after the November election, merge the department with Arnold Company 2, or put the decision up to a community referendum.
Chief Walter Gouza III said that membership and participation had declined since his brother, former chief Brian Gouza, was removed over charges of financial misdeeds.
