Jeannette’s Police Chief said that the number of surveillance cameras will more than triple soon.
The Trib reports that Chief Donald Johnston, Jr. said the department will add 63 cameras, including 16 license plate readers, using money from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency. The grant will also cover the purchase of body cameras, computer upgrades, and an additional monitor at the police station to watch all the cameras.
Johnston said that the 16 or so cameras already in place have increased the force’s rate of solving crimes by 30 percent.
