Hydraulic fluid was released into the Allegheny River from Braeburn Alloy Steel in Lower Burrell on Monday afternoon. The Trib reports that the spill was seen by two passersby on the Westmoreland shore of the river around 3:00 PM. Lower Burrell firefighters said the spill was contained as of 5:45 PM. There were no known immediate dangers to public water supplies, and no visible impacts on wildlife were seen. The fluid entered the water just upriver of the Natrona Dam. The cause of the leak is not known, and the state Department of Environmental Protection will conduct an investigation.
