The state Senate has passed a bill to protect utility customers. The proposed bill renews a package of utility customer protections that expired and covers illnesses, shutoffs and other customer issues. The chamber also passed a bill that creates an Independent Energy office fashioned after the existing Independent Fiscal Office. Both bills are headed to the House for consideration.
