Westmoreland leaders are pointing out workforce, shelter, and high-speed internet needs as part of this year’s State of the County address. Officials gathered for the annual luncheon yesterday to talk about the potential for growth in the area. Commissioner Sean Kertes told the group more young people need to be encouraged to pursue trades careers to support the thriving industrial economy in Westmoreland County. Fellow Commissioner Ted Kopas touched on a need for more temporary housing, saying Westmoreland lacks available options as compared with counties of similar size. The lack of high-speed internet access in rural areas was outlined by Commissioner Doug Chew. He says adding the service to more neighborhoods is key for attracting young families and reversing the trend of population loss.
