Butler County native Marc Fogel is back in Western Pennsylvania after spending more than three years in a Russian prison. Loved ones confirmed that Fogel was onboard a flight that landed at Pittsburgh International yesterday afternoon. He was returned to the U.S. last week and had to complete the U.S. State Department’s transition protocol. Fogel was initially detained at a Moscow airport in August of 2021 after being stopped with a small amount of medical marijuana. He had been sentenced to 14 years in prison by Russian officials but was released in a prisoner exchange that included a Russian cybercriminal, according to the White House.
