Supporters of the Penn State New Kensington campus and local officials were present last night for a rally to keep the school open. The Trib reports that a dozen speakers expressed their opinions last night at the event at New Kensington City Hall. Penn State said they would close branch campuses in two years due to declining enrollment, demographic shifts and finances. Some speakers say the closure of the campus would hurt economic growth and educational opportunities not just in New Kensington, but throughout the region.
