Three area middle school students are on their way to a state civics competition with a chance to go to the national finals. The tri-county region of Fayette, Somerset and Westmoreland counties held its first-ever “Civics Bee” Tuesday night as part of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s National Civics Bee. The competition, which took place at the Fred Rogers Center in Latrobe, featured 18 students from eight school districts. Last night’s top three finishers advance to the state Civics Bee in State College on June 13th. One state winner goes onto the National Championship in Washington, D.C. in the fall.
