The New Kensington-Arnold School District has scheduled a special board meeting for a vote concerning the 2025-26 budget. The Trib reports that the meeting will be held January 14th at 6 PM and on the proposed agenda is a motion for the district’s Act 1 Resolution, which says the district will not raise taxes above the state-mandated limits for the next school year. If they do not pass it, a preliminary budget must be released to the public by January 30th. For 2025-26, New Kensington-Arnold’s index, or limit, is 6%. To exceed that limit, the district would have to seek voter approval through a referendum or, as is typically done statewide, receive exceptions from the state to avoid a referendum.
