Plans are on course to double the number of teens that are housed at the Regional Youth Services Center in Hempfield. The Trib reports that the Westmoreland County juvenile detention board said that only three teens are currently housed at the facility, and they can go up to eight juveniles at a reduced capacity. The facility is licensed to hold up to 16 child offenders. Officials are looking to expand to 16 this summer. County commissioners said any capacity increase would come after a $1 million project to replace the original doors and locks is complete.
