Hempfield township has been awarded a $1.76 million state grant to connect the new municipal complex to the Five Star trail. The Trib reports that the money will be used to realign Smith Street and create a shared lane for bikes along Rugh Street to Broad Street and connect with the rail trail. The money is coming from the State Department of Community and Economic Development’s Multimodal Transportation Fund. Construction is expected to start next year.
