The Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County notified customers in 3 of its 4 systems that conservation is no longer necessary, following the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection lifting its drought watch for the region. In November, the municipal authority requested conservation of its customers following heavy use due to a cold snap. Customers were reminded of the request again in January. The authority estimated that in January, millions of gallons of water per day was used by customers who ran their water to avoid frozen pipes.
