The Pennsylvania Senate is passing a measure that would put limits on non-monetary bond following some controversial decisions by a judge in Allegheny County. Senator Devlin Robinson says Senate Bill 490 is a direct response to actions taken by Judge Xander Orenstein. That includes non-monetary bond arrangements for a man accused of assault who then fatally stabbed an off-duty state liquor agent following his release, according to investigators. Senate Bill 490 restricts bail options for suspects who have a history of violent crime, who have injured or run from law enforcement, or who are found in possession of ten grams or more of fentanyl. The legislation will now be considered by lawmakers in the Pennsylvania House.
