The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has halted efforts of a Westmoreland County couple to sue a gunmaker whose product killed their son in 2016. The Trib reports that Mark and Leah Gustafson had filed the lawsuit against Springfield Armory of Illinois and Saloom Department Store. In a 45-page opinion issued last week, the court found that the federal Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act would prohibit the Gustafons from suing in a situation where the underlying harm was caused by a purposeful act. 14-year-old John Burnsworth III pulled the trigger to kill 13-year-old J.R. Gustafson.
