The son of a Lower Burrell district judge will head to trial for several drug-related charges.
The Tribune-Review reports that Stephen Yakopec III, the son of Judge Cheryl Yakopec was ordered by Senior District Judge Herb Mitchell to stand trial on charges of manufacturing, possession and intent to deliver a controlled substance; possession of a controlled substance and of drug paraphernalia.
Yakopec waived his right to trial on eight other drug-related charges. This is in connection with a traffic stop on Route 22 on August 1st after police were tipped off about Yakopec transporting large amounts of marijuana through Murrysville. Police found 14 pounds of marijuana in the car, and another 16 pounds of marijuana confiscated in two separate searches of residences.
Yakopec is also facing drug charges in Allegheny County.
